Helen Campbell

Helen Campbell teaches 4th grade English Language Arts at Tharptown Elementary School. She began her teaching career in 2007 and has been part of the TES community since 2006. Helen earned her Bachelor’s degree from Athens State University and is LETRS certified, which supports her work in strengthening students’ reading and literacy skills. Before becoming a full-time teacher, she worked as a substitute at Tharptown Elementary, gaining valuable experience in the classroom and building strong connections within the school community. Helen enjoys helping students grow academically and especially loves seeing the “aha” moments when students realize they have learned something new. She appreciates the small and unique environment at Tharptown Elementary and the close relationships that develop among students, staff, and families. Helen has deep roots in the TES community - both of her children attended Tharptown from kindergarten through graduation and now work at the school alongside her. She is also proud that all four of her grandchildren currently attend TES, making the school a special place for her family.

Merry Martin

Merry Martin is a 4th Grade Science teacher at Tharptown Elementary School. She began her teaching career in 2005 and joined the TES family in 2024. Mrs. Martin holds an Associate of Science in Pre-Registered Nursing from Central Alabama Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Faulkner University, and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In addition, she holds a certification as a paralegal. Her diverse educational background and life experiences bring a unique perspective to her classroom and enrich the learning opportunities she provides for her students. Mrs. Martin has always had a passion for learning and enjoys sharing knowledge to help others grow. She believes that every student has the ability to learn and make progress each day when given the right opportunities, encouragement, and tools. Her teaching philosophy centers on providing meaningful learning experiences that help students reach their full potential. She credits much of her preparation for teaching to her experiences as a mother and caregiver, as well as her involvement in tutoring and mentoring programs. Mrs. Martin values the supportive environment at Tharptown Elementary and appreciates being part of a school community that prioritizes people and meaningful learning. She is the proud mother of three children - Emily, Seth, and Bailie - and grandmother to her grandson, Baylor. She is always eager to support students and families in any way she can.
