Rhett Smith

Rhett Smith serves as the Technology Teacher at Tharptown Elementary School and has been part of the TES family since February 2022. He holds an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Technology from Northeast Mississippi Community College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at the University of West Alabama. Before stepping into his current role, Coach Smith spent three years as an interventionist at TES, supporting students in both reading and math. In addition to teaching technology, he also serves as the school’s webmaster, managing and maintaining the Tharptown Elementary website. His teaching philosophy centers on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow, and he strives to create engaging, meaningful learning experiences that meet students where they are.

In addition to his work in the classroom, Coach Smith is actively involved in the school’s athletic programs. He coaches junior high girls basketball and serves as an assistant coach for high school girls basketball. He has also coached youth basketball since 2021 and assisted with other youth sports programs. He is a proud father and values being part of the Tharptown community both inside and outside of school.

Our Technology program at Tharptown Elementary helps students build essential digital skills in a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate way. Students in all grade levels develop keyboarding skills, practice digital citizenship, explore coding concepts, and learn how to use technology as a tool for creativity and problem-solving.

We use trusted platforms to support instruction and give students hands-on experience with real-world digital tools. Through these resources, students learn how to navigate technology safely, think critically, and become confident digital learners prepared for the future.
